About The Project

The eChook Greenpower Telemetry project originated around 2018 with Greenpower looking for a tailored data logging system for teams, and four engineers ageing out of Greenpower racing. The telemetry systems from our two Greenpower teams, Driven and weChook Racing, was reborn into a kit and app that other teams could build and use, sold on the Greenpower shop.

After a few prototypes, the eChook Nano v1.3 became the first kit sold, with a two layer through hole PCB, a kit of components for teams to assemble, and a focus on keeping the electronic ideas used inline with the GCSE and A-Level Electronics curriculum. Over time this evolved with breakout boards added for the current and magnet sensors making the assembly and mounting easier and more robust.

There was a major change in 2024, with V2 being released. This took the form of a 4 layer PCB that was sold pre-assembled with surface mount components. These changes allowed a far higher component count, enabling far better protection circuitry and significantly increasing the robustness of the system.

The V2.x kits are proving popular, alongside a significant redesign of the online live telemetry page, and a collaboration with the Banchory Greenpower team, who provide the OMNI Android app interfacing with the eChook Nano boards. Full kits are available to buy from Greenpower, accessories and spares are available on the eChook shop, and everything including printable models for the case, is open source.

How the eChook System Works

  1. Hardware Integration: Install the Nano V2, build and route the wiring loom, and mount sensors (hall effect, current, temperature) in the car.
  2. The App: Connect to the OMNI Android telemetry app via Bluetooth to view and log data on your phone, as well as augmenting the data with the phones sensors.
  3. Data Analysis: Stream live readings to the eChook live website for real-time monitoring in the pits.
